Return, one-way or multi-city: which flight plan for your visa?
How to choose the flight plan shape for a visa application: return, one-way or multi-city, and what each says about your trip.
The shape of your flight plan tells a story about your trip. Pick the one that matches what you describe in your application.
Return
- A return plan shows you leaving and coming back. It fits a holiday, a visit or a business trip with a clear end date.
One-way
- A one-way plan fits a move, a long stay or a trip where you will return later. Some borders ask for onward travel, which a separate reservation can show.
Multi-city
- A multi-city plan fits trips with several stops, such as a tour or a business round. Make sure the order of cities matches your cover letter.
Keep it consistent
- Dates, cities and numbers of travellers should match the rest of your file, and the official checklist always wins.
Check the official checklist
This guide is general information, not legal advice, and it does not guarantee a visa. Rules differ by country, visa type and consulate, and they change. Follow the checklist of the embassy or visa centre you apply to.
